The most northern departement of the Auvergne, the Allier, is a three hour drive from Paris or Lyon and indeed invokes the sense of being in the very middle,  between the North and the South, of France. The Allier is well known for the diversity in its natural scenery; mountains, rolling hills, valleys, forests and lakes.  Agricultural activities are omnipresent. The region lacks heavy industries and hence provides for a genuine clean air to breath. About 500 castles of a significant historical value  -the heritage of the dukes of Bourbon- speckle the map. Most of them are open for visits and many play a key role in cultural summer events
It is this departement where, now for more than half a century, Hotel La Croix des Bois is situated next to, as it's name might reveal, "crossing forest roads",  bordering le Bois des Colettes and overviewing the VallĂ©e de la Sioule.

Since 2003 this modest hotel is managed by a Dutch couple, Sumara Lalisang and Joop Bontjes.
The cuisine of La Croix des Bois, a blend of the Mediterranean and traditional French styles, has become a household name in the area.
In 2007 the services have been broadened with a small campsite on the meadow next to the hotel.
The tranquility of the surroundings of La Croix Des Bois, with its wide skies and whispering forests are ideal for families with (young) childeren, nature lovers, hikers,  bike-riders and those who love horeback riding.
